Index finger of Sheikh Mujib

BIMAL GUHA

For a long time silent darkness
Engulfed these eyes- couldn’t see faraway,
Sunshine also was covered for an uninterrupted period
Primitive light of the dawn halted at the door
Lying on the stairs, this man’s eyes didn’t wake up at dawn.
On the other hand, whole day piercing the eardrum
Violent clapping crushed in the cavity of brain
The band of burglars abruptly captured the Nation’s grandeur.

For a long time silent curse befell on the abodes of the Bangalees
Plunderers destroyed those bright sun-drenched days
The children didn’t sleep, nor even the village became solemn
Before my eyes I see a new Sun emerge
Splashes of clouds from Chimbuk hills rose and descend to earth
Great deluge wipes away all the debris of the Nation
To the Bay of Bengal.
Valiant Mujib’s robust index finger again
Taps at the forehead of the Nation.
