Publication Ceremony of an exceptional research publication ‘Cowri to Taka- Evolution of Coins and Currencies of Bangladesh’ authored by Siddique Mahmudur Rahman, M. Muhibullah, M. Jahirul Islam, Syeed bin Salam, Arup Kumar Saha and Abdus Samad was held on 10 September 2011 at Hotel Sonargaon at 4 pm.

Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank, attended the function as Chief Guest. Prof. M Sirajul Islam, President, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh and Chief Editor, Banglapedia was present as Special Guest. The Ceremony was organised by Kazi Wahidul Alam, Publisher, Triune Monitor Publications.

Cowri to Taka is the unique publication of its kind. Study on the evolution of currencies, notes and coins, their designs is as much important as other branches of knowledge, though the academicians never thought of studying on this subject and almost nothing has been written on it in the past years.

Major chapters of this book include- Cowri – the dawn of Indian coinage; Ancient Coins; Sultani Coins; British period; Currencies of Pakistan 1947-1971; Bangladesh; Coin Catalogue of Bangladesh and Paper Currency Catalogue of Bangladesh.

The book contain 132 pages, size 6″ x 9″ and have more than 200 coloured pictures.

The price of the book is Tk. 475 (in Bangladesh) / US $ 50 (abroad, with airmail postage). There will be 30 % commissions for bulk buyers.
